We Ignite! is run by USFSP faculty and students as well as engaged community members who are interested in social innovation and enhancing social welfare and environmental health.
Our goal at We Ignite! is to provide support to new social enterprises during their startup phase. We are providing resources and tools to assure that these new organizations will be doing well while doing good.
We Ignite! will also fund and carry out research to assess the social, environmental, and economic impacts of select social enterprises.
This year is our first year in business, and we are working with the following four social enterprises that were brought to life by MBA students at USFSP:
- Harvest 361 will provide fresh, healthy, locally grown produce to families living in the food deserts in St. Petersburg, FL. Its mission is to replace inner-city derelict land with thriving urban farms, while also educating the community on the many advantages of urban farming and the importance of maintaining a healthy diet.
- Para Adelante will provide funding for a higher education degree to Latin American women who will use education as a catalyst for change – to rise above poverty, support their families, and eventually enact social change in their communities.
- SolART Technologies will provide a portable, solar powered, low-cost medical sterilization device to people and/or clinics in developing countries with the goal to increase the quality of life and prevent the loss of life due to poorly or unsterilized medical instruments.
- Last Call Cab will serve Saint Petersburg in the fight against drunk driving. It provides low-cost rides to individuals who had too much to drink. The organization also seeks to identify the reasons people choose to drink and drive and ultimately provide the necessary information, tools, and incentives to prevent it.
